Who are the Fantastic Fifteen?

They are the “babies” of the ELS classes. The youngest are 7 ½ years old, and the oldest are between 9 and 10 years of age. When we started the ELS classes, we thought it would be fun to start an ezine for the kids, and asked them to choose a name for both their class and the magazine. They called themselves “Roly Poly Saturday”, and named their magazine Fantastic Fifteen. Both names are entirely appropriate – they are a roly poly, lovable bunch, as you can see from their photographs, and, more than that, they are, indeed, the Fantastic Fifteen !

What is ELS?

Elocution and Life Skills is an attempt to develop children into thinking young people, aware of the world around them, and confident enough to have opinions of their own. Arising out of the Speech and Drama (Elocution) classes conducted by Madhulika Varma, Kamala Ramchandani-Naharwar and Vidhi Shah, the basic idea is to encourage and develop the personal growth of the children both intellectually and emotionally

So please meet The Fantastic Fifteen through their articles, and artwork, which we will keep updating regularly. With the exception of this note,  all the articles have been written and illustrated by the kids themselves, and the “editorial consultants”, Madhulika Varma, Kamala Ramchandani-Naharwar and Vidhi Shah only help and guide the children. We encourage the kids to express their creativity, and the results are there for all to see.

Do sign our guestbook and tell us what you think. And if you have a favourite page, please tell us about that too !

Enjoy !

Here are some pictures we loved. They were in a book which was brought to class by Vrinda Gangwal, and we all voted and chose our favourite pictures. Hope you like them too !

Last Saturday (March 31st 2007) was a very exciting class. We all had to nominate the Indian of the Year.

We were given a paper with many Indians’ names and what they have done for our country. We had to choose anyone and nominate the person.

The people were Manmohan Singh, S. Manjunath, Amitabh Bachchan, Barkha Dutt, Sachin Tendulkar, Mira Nair and many more.

After everyone voted, the winner was a three-way tie, with each person having three votes ! The winners were: Barkha Dutt, Bina Ramani and S. Manjunath.

The second place was shared by four people, each having one vote. They were Mira Nair, Rabindranath Tagore, Mahatma Gandhi and P. Chidambaram.

This class was a very exciting one. We all went home with sweet memories.
