India is a country with many states. And first, I’m
going to tell you about Gujarat. It is a state in western India, where people speak Gujarati, and its capital is Gandhinagar.
The special dishes of Gujarat are Khaman Dhokla (steamed rice pancakes cut into pieces) and Undhyu (a dish which includes
every green vegetable possible). The Dandiya and Garba are the main folk dances of this state, and Navrratri is the main festival
– it means “Nine Nights”, and for nine nights people dance the Dandiya and there is fun and festivity.
Now I’ll tell you about Orissa. It lies on the east
coast of India and its people are soft spoken, submissive, social and tolerant. They speak Oriya. Sea food is the main food
over there. The capital of Orissa is Bhubaneshwar, the city of temples. One special feature of Orissa is that it is dotted
with archaeological relics of a wide variety or religions. The most enchanting architectural wonder is the Sun Temple in the
city of Konark.
Now it’s time for Maharashtra. It is one of the biggest
states of India and lies on the west coast. The people here speak Marathi. They mainly eat Usal and Misal. In Mumbai, vada
pau (which is a potato patty in a small bun) is very popular. It’s delicious !
The world heritage site of the Ajanta and Ellora caves are
in Aurangabad in Maharashtra. It is a beautiful place to visit. Lonavla and Mahabaleshwar are two Maharashtrian hill stations
which are also great to visit. Mumbai, the capital of Maharashtra, is one of the biggest cities in India, and is the economic
capital of the country. It is called the City of Dreams, because people from all over India come here to make their dreams
come true. But it is a very polluted city !
Maharashtra is a very big state. Some towns here are very
noisy and some are very peaceful. So come and visit Maharashtra – you will have a lot of fun.
Indian states are the best.
