THE GIRL
WHO WAS SHOT
Story
and illustrations by Anushka Kapur
One day a little girl called
Fara was punished in her Maths class because she was feeling very thirsty while doing a paper. She asked the teacher a hundred
times but the cruel teacher would just not speak and would just say “Fara, go to your place and do your work.”
But Fara went to drink water, so the cruel teacher told her to walk back home and stay at home till the Maths lesson was over.
So poor Fara went walking home.
While she was going, she heard the sound of a child. The poor child was only four years old and it was no-one else but Fara’s
little friend who was her neighbour – and she was being murdered ! And guess what? The murderer was little Ashly’s
mother! As poor Ashly screamed and Fara heard her, she also screamed, and Ashly’s nasty mother saw Fara and knew that
she had seen the murder taking place. Fara ran. Aunty Katy ran behind her, but luck was on Fara’s side and she was saved
from the wicked Aunty Katy.
But, do you know something? Aunty
Katy had a plan, and the plan was that she would kill Fara as well, before she told the world that Katy had killed her very
own daughter.
So days passed, and Fara kept
her mouth shut. But one day she thought that if she kept her mouth shut, then maybe the wicked Aunty Katy would even kill
her best friend Tanvi, who was Aunty Katy’s elder daughter and also Fara’s good friend. So Fara told her maid
to take care of her younger sister while she went to her mother’s shop to tell her mother all about this case.
She left – but, oh god
! Aunty Katy was planning to kill Fara at that very moment ! She took her gun and shot the dear little innocent girl, but
luck was not on her side and all the people around Fara saw the murder and ran after the wicked lady and tried to catch her.
Then Tanvi stood in front of her wicked Mom, and she knew every single thing her mother had done, and Tanvi caught her mother
herself and put her behind bars. She told the police why she had done this, and the reason was that her mother had killed
Ashley because Ashley had heard her having a conversation about kidnapping the son of Mr. Shah who was the world’s richest
man. Then she killed Fara because Farah saw her killing Ashley. “Please take me out of jail,” she said. “I
promise I will never do it again.”
But after one year, the court
decided that she should be hanged. And after a month, she was dead.

THE MAGIC CLOCK
By Anushka Kapur
Once upon a time there lived
a wicked witch called Mincy. She was the head of all of the witches. She was the head of all the witches. She always blew
her nose every ten minutes and filthy green paste would come out of her nose whenever she blew it.
One day she went to look for
food for herself in the woods, and as she entered, she gave a big sneeze and went flying and landed straight on an enormous
peacock’s back. The peacock was very friendly so it just smiled at the witch and tried to speak, but, my friends, you
know how mean the witch was ! She gave the peacock a huge wallop on his back and walked away.
Then when she walked further
she saw a clock on the ground. She picked it up and said, “Oh god, what a useless clock. It does not work at all. I
wish it could work.” – and oh my god, her wish came true and the clock started working !
The witch was shocked ! She thought
to herself, “I can ask for whatever I want and it will all come true!” So she said, “I want a tree house
and a little pet mouse,” and her wish came true. She was so excited to ask for more wishes ! She asked for a maid who
would cook for her. Her wish came true. The maid was very fair, she had jet black and silky hair, her face was clear, she
was tall, slim and trim, her English was perfect, her cooking was fabulous and her clothes were neat and tidy.
Then, after a month, she disappeared
and the witch was unhappy, because who would do all the work? Who would wake up and get juicy, yummy children for her? She
would have no juicy, yummy children any more. And guess what? After six months, the clock disappeared, and even her pet mouse.
And then after a year or so, even her tree house was not there any more ! Then, you know, if every single thing of hers was
gone, how could she live? She was dead, and so the town of Neverland was happy and the whole town was filled with happiness.

DON’T WORRY KARAN
By Anushka Kapur
Karan, a little Indian boy, was
very bad at school work. One day he had a Maths test. He was very nervous about it. After the test, when he went home and
rang the bell, and when his mother opened the door, she asked him how his test had gone! He replied, “Mom, I don’t
know. Today I am blank about what mark I will get.”
“Oh! Don’t worry
about that,” said his mother, “because I know you must have got 5 on 100 – not more than that, or maybe
even less!”
Karan just gave his mother a
big smile and walked away to his room.
After a few minutes, his mother
went into Karan’s room and told him to study for the English test the next day. He studied and studied till he fell
asleep.
The next morning, he was all
set for his paper. But his teacher told all the children that the test was the next day. The children were surprised, and
happy too, because they didn’t want to do the test. Then the teacher told them the marks of the Maths paper. And she
said, “ The child who has done the best is Karan!”
Karan was surprised and was waiting
to tell his mother the news. As she opened the door he said, “Mum, do you know – I was the best in my Maths paper?”
His mother was also shocked and was crying with happiness.
Karan was so happy that he forgot
that the English test was the next day and went to play. Some time later his mother called up his friend Raj’s mother
to ask if Raj could come to Karan’s home, and then she found out that Raj was studying for the test the next day, and
Karan hadn’t told her about it. So she ran into Karan’s room. “Karan,” she screamed, and slapped him
and shouted at him. “You silly goose! Come here. I am very angry with you. Go study right now ! Go !”
The way she shouted made Karan
so frightened that he ran to study. For about an hour he was studying, but after an hour he began playing again. His mother
kept on telling him, but he did not listen to anyone and went off to sleep at 8 o’clock.
The next day he did the worst
in the test, and the teacher said, “The worst child is Karan.” He was feeling very bad and then of course his
mother explained that he should study well for every test. From then on he was very, very good in his work. He would always
be the best in every paper and test. After two years his mother had a baby girl, and then he taught his sister all the good
things he had learnt.

The Magical Toothbrush
By Aadya Jajodia
|
One night, when
I was brushing my teeth, I found that my toothbrush was broken. So I made up my mind to get a new one.
Next morning,
I asked my mother if I could go to the market and she said, “Yes, you may go.” When I went to the market I found
the prettiest toothbrush. It was pink with good bristles and a lovely fairy on it. I quickly took it to the counter, paid
for it and went home. Little did I know that it was a special one.
That night I thought
about having cookies for breakfast. To my surprise there were cookies for breakfast!
Again, the next night, I thought about having lots of goodies and crackers for poor children. Next morning when I woke up
I found my whole house filled with them. I went downstairs and distributed them and had a marvelous time too. Now I know my
toothbrush will always help me with whatever I need, and especially to perform good deeds.

THE FABULOUS FIVE
Story by Vedant Parikh and
Written
by Shreya Parikh
The Fabulous Five
were – Pooja, Shruti, Dhwani, Vedant and Shreya. They always used to help anyone if they needed help, especially when
someone’s things would get lost or stolen.
One day in a factory
which made chocolates, some thieves stole about 2000 chocolates which were to be transported the next morning. The owner of
the factory, Mr. Neil, knew the Fabulous Five very well and called them over. Then he told them what had happened.
Pooja asked him,
“How many chocolates do you make every day?”
Mr. Neil said,
“About 2,500.”
Then Shruti asked
him how many security guards he had at night, and he said, “Five in the front, five at the back and two on each side.”
Dhwani told him
that they would all come back that evening at 5 o’clock, since the factory closed at 6
o’clock, and would find a place to hide and watch.
The children came
back at 5 o’clock sharp and Mr. Neil was waiting for them. He showed them
where he kept his chocolates at night. Shreya then said, “Can you put the chocolates in this cupboard somewhere else,
so we can hide here?” and Mr. Neil said “Yes.”
Then the children
hid with Mr. Neil. But all of them did not hide – two of them waited outside so that if the thief ran, they could catch
him.
At midnight the door opened and one of the security guards came in. He started opening the cupboards and
stealing the chocolate. At last he opened the cupboard in which Mr. Neil and the Fabulous Five were hiding. When he saw them,
he dropped his bag and ran. The three children in the cupboard did not run, but sent a message on the walkie talkie, telling
the two outside to catch the man who was running. They caught the security guard and he was put in prison for 3 years and
had to pay the price of 2.500 chocolates as a fine, while the Fabulous Five would get 50 chocolates each, every month !
